Big house The theater on Robert-Blum-Straße was built more than 100 years ago and opened in 1915. Under artistic director Emanuel Voß, who led the house intermittently until 1949, it became a respected center of the performing arts. The main building seats 435. Since 2022, the Großes Haus has been undergoing renovation, with the Stadthalle serving as an interim venue. City Hall The Stadthalle was built as part of a building complex together with the Greifswald Theater, designed by Berlin architects Richard and Heinrich Iwan and Erich Trehde. It was ceremoniously reopened in December 2009 after extensive renovation and restoration work. Since then, the theater and Stadthalle in Greifswald have once again provided a central social and cultural hub with a wide range of uses. At the same time, it serves as a central alternative venue during the renovation of the Großes Haus. Siemensallee gymnasium With the start of the renovation of the Grand Theatre, the Greifswald-based departments, particularly the drama and ballet, lost their space. While the drama department had already rehearsed in the Thronpost building before the Grand Theatre's closure, the ballet department moved to the gymnasium at Siemensallee 5. Regular events are also offered here, such as the "TanzBar," where dancers provide insights into current ballet productions and showcase their talents during rehearsals.
