Stage One: Audition in-person or through video. Students who have successfully auditioned will be invited to Stage Two of the process.
Stage Two: Students entering grades 6-8 will attend Summer School in July. Students entering grades 9-Company Life Program will join for a 1-week audition experience between January and April at NBS. Students who have successfully auditioned will be invited to join the full-time Professional Ballet Program for the 2025/26 school year.
This is a blended audition for the Professional Ballet-Academic Program and Company Life Program (for students who have graduated high school) at Canada's National Ballet School.
The in-person audition will include a ballet class taught by NBS faculty and a second dance class that explores a complementary style or form. The NBS team will follow-up closer to audition time with further details about what to bring, what to wear, and how to have fun!
Please note that audition candidates are grouped by age as of December 31, 2024. This follows the same pattern as the Ontario education system.
When you register, you will be asked to submit a portrait style headshot of the auditioning dancer. The image will be used by NBS staff for identification purposes during the audition process and does not need to be professionally shot.
The NBS website—www.nbs-enb.ca—is a great source for up-to-date information about the school and the audition process.
