Today the Detmold State Theater is the largest of the four state theaters in North Rhine-Westphalia and the only one with a music theater ensemble. Almost 50 percent of the almost 600 performances per season are held in cities and communities throughout North Rhine-Westphalia and throughout Germany. The house employs 260 people, around half of whom work in the artistic field, the other employees work in the technical-artistic trades and in the administrative area of the State Theater. The Landestheater Detmold has been run as a non-profit GmbH since August 1, 2006. Half of the house's budget is provided by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, a quarter is generated by the house from its income, and the remaining quarter is contributed by the shareholders (primarily the Lippe district, the city of Detmold and the Lippe regional association). The State Theater also receives support from the “Theaterfreunde” support association and numerous sponsors from the regional economy.
