Video Requirements:

VIDEO AUDITIONS The video should be approximately 5 to 10 minutes in length and show the student in practice clothes doing an abbreviated class with the following barre and center exercises. Pointe work is required. Please see the bottom of the page for the specifications by age. ​ We recognize that students may not have access to a ballet studio for filming their audition video. If you are recording your video application at home or in a non-traditional dance space, please only include the listed steps that can be safely executed. The pointe work requirements listed below may be modified as needed based on the limitations of your floor surface. ​ Please do not include any variations or performance footage in the video audition. ​ All applicants must submit two photos on the application form: one in tendu à la seconde and one in relevé first arabesque. Photos do not have to be professionally taken and should be taken in practice clothes. BARRE EXERCISES (for all ages) ​ Please film barre work from a side (slightly front) angle. Position the camera as close as possible but ensure that your entire body is fully visible from head to toe for both barre and center work. The video should be filmed in a landscape/horizontal orientation. All should be simple combinations. ​ Two demi-pliés, one grand plié, and a port de bras in first, second, fourth, and fifth positions (one side) Tendu (both sides) Rond de Jambe (one side) Développé (both sides) Grand Battement (both sides) CENTER EXERCISES (for all ages) ​ Where applicable, please include combinations that demonstrate both sides. ​ Battement Tendu Adagio – incorporate dévelopé devant, dévelopé à la seconde, and promenade in arabesque Pirouettes – Single and double pirouette from fourth position Glissade Assemblé Glissade Jeté Petit Allegro with Battu (ages 14-18) Grande Allegro with tour jeté and grand jeté Boys – Single or double tour en l’air

Audition Description

Monday, July 14 – Saturday, August 2, 2025 ​ For students ages 12 to 20. Audition required. ​ New Jersey Ballet School’s prestigious program will be held under the artistic leadership of former New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Maria Kowroski and is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of dancers. Maria Kowroski Artistic Director The three-week Summer Intensive is geared towards serious ballet students ages 12 to 20 who have a passion for dance and are ready to achieve a new level of artistic excellence. ​ Students selected from across the United States and abroad will train at our state-of-the-art facility under a distinguished faculty that will include internationally renowned guest teachers. The meticulously crafted program will support each technical level and provide the highest caliber of training in a nurturing artistic environment. ​ Classes will run Monday to Saturday, providing students with up to 30 hours of instruction each week. The dancers can expect to participate in a diverse selection of classes based on their age and technical level. These will include: ​ Ballet Technique Pointe Repertoire Pas de Deux Variations Contemporary Musical Theater Jazz Stretch & Strengthen Stage Craft Pilates Men's Class Masterclasses and Q&As with World-Renowned Artists *Classes may vary by level. ​ For students traveling from out of town, housing will be available at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Florham Park campus, located just minutes away from New Jersey Ballet’s Studios. Transportation to and from the university's campus will be provided, along with a meal plan at the university's cafeteria, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay. ​ PLEASE NOTE: All students are required to commit to the entirety of the 3-week program. ​ AUDITIONS ​​ As part of the audition process, New Jersey Ballet School will host in-person auditions in both New Jersey and New York.
