New Jazz Creation - “Not Your Average Nutcracker” [ Pour la version française , voyez les commentaires ci-dessous ] Rooted Dance Projects, under the artistic direction of Kathleen Doherty is holding auditions for professional and emerging dancers to join a new full-length jazz dance creation in Nova Scotia, Canada. ABOUT THE PROJECT Not Your Average Nutcracker is a playful and reimagined take on classic ballet stories - The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Romeo & Juliet - set to live jazz music composed and performed by Jackson Fairfax-Perry and his quartet. 👀WHO THEY’RE LOOKING FOR • Emerging & professional dancers based in (or able to relocate to) Nova Scotia • Dancers of all gender identities, races & backgrounds encouraged to apply • Strong musicality, grounded rhythm & groove-based movement • Jazz experience welcomed, but not required CONTRACT DETAILS • Paid professional contract (approx. 150 rehearsal hrs + 3 performances) • $27–$32/hour (depending on experience) IN-PERSON AUDITION Friday, 28 November 2025 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Maritime Conservatory, 6199 Chebucto Rd, Halifax Audition = Jazz class taught by Kathleen Doherty (warm-up, across-the-floor, centre work, improvisation & groove tasks).
