Likewise, lovers of the classical repertoire will get their money’s worth at Ballet Kiel under Ivanenko. With his refreshing reinterpretations of great classical ballets such as Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" or Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet", Ivanenko earned much praise from critics and rich applause from the audience. They are a prime example of his movement language, which combines subtle, playful with dynamic, acrobatic elements. In his fifth season, 2015/16, Ivanenko completed the “Tchaikovsky cycle” with “Sleeping Beauty,” and he also brought Prokofiev’s second major ballet “Cinderella” to the Kiel stage in 2018/19. Other ballet classics included “La Sylphide” choreographed by August Bournonville and “Coppélia”.
